The Celebrity Rehab show is a reality television show on cable network VH1 that chronicles celebrities who are treated for drug and alcohol addiction. On a New York Times article, Dr. Drew Pinsk was greatly disturbed by tabloid portrayals of addictions as indulgence to the famous and rich and some independent producers proposed to VH1 to have a reality TV show series that depicts addiction as a form of media intervention.
The first season of Celebrity Rehab premiered on January 10, 2008 and Dr. Pinsky is shown on the screen as the executive producer. The casting for the first season was the hardest since representatives of celebrities arrested or with addiction problems refused to talk to the producers. After the first season aired, it became easier.
Tom Sizemore who was cast Season 3 had been sought after Season 1. It is noted that producers have offered actress Lindsay Lohan six figures just to appear on the show. Dr. Pinsk, who was not usually involved in casting, reportedly visited Rachel Uchitel to convince her to join Season 4. Numerous cameras are utilized, filming twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week during the treatment cycle of 21 days. Automated cameras are mounted all over the area to capture dramatic incidents that usually occur in the morning, except in the bathroom, which are equipped with microphones in order to monitor unusual sounds such as patients who attempt to use drugs.
